1 month old and spitting up after eating
My daughter is 1 month old and is spitting up every time after she eats, she will spit-up up to an hour in a half after she finishes eating. It doesn't seem to matter what I eat. When she spits-up it either looks like milk or it is clumpy, it looks like cottage cheese. I am only breastfeeding her and she eats every 3-5 hours, depending on if she is sleeping or awake. I am just concerned that she is having a problem digesting the breast milk and if I should start supplementing formula to see if that helps.
Answer from the lactation consultant It is odd for a baby to spit up that long after a feeding. Sounds like she may have a strong gag reflex.
All milk looks like cottage cheese when it begins to digest. The stomach acids cook it and thus the smell/appearance. That is totally normal and NOT an indication for switching to formula.
If you feel her spitting up is more than normal, then you should have her seen by her doctor.
