Adoptive Breastfeeding
Adoptive breastfeeding: Did you know that a woman can produce breastmilk without being pregnant? This is called induced lactation. And yes it is possible and has been successful for many moms.
I have worked with several moms who induced lactation - some mothers who adopt and some RElactate when they have lost their milk supply for whatever reason.
Breastmilk production is obtained by following a specific protocol. You cannot just simply put a baby to the breast and milk magically appear. The protocal was developed by Lenore Goldfarb in cooperation with Dr. Jack Newman. It is called the
Newman-Goldfarb Protocol.

There are actually 3 different protocols to meet different needs. On her site (link above) there is a tool to help you decide which protocol you need.
If you need a support system while you go through the steps, I am here for you.
For more information on these protocols visit the
AskLenore website.
Lenore Goldfarb is a lactation educator, IBCLC AND she produced breastmilk with her own adopted child in 1999.
