Breast Bottle Plan

I have worked with moms who nursed twice a day long term and I have worked with moms who nurse every other feeding long term : either is very doable. Or you can find a method that works for you.

Here is a plan of a mom who will nurse or pump every 6 hours and feed a bottle for all feeds in between.

6am nurse baby
9am baby recieves supplemental bottle, mom does nothing
Noon nurse baby or if at work pump and baby recieves breastmilk
3pm baby recieves supplemental bottle, mom does nothing
6pm nurse baby or if at work pump and baby recieves breastmilk
9pm baby recieves supplemental bottle, mom does nothing
midnight nurse baby
3am baby recieves supplemental bottle, mom does nothing
6am start over
Doing a routine like this will NOT provide breast milk for all feedings, you will need to supplement. But dont you think 50% is better than 0%? I sure do.
***Notice that you are doing the same routine day and night. A common pitfall many women encounter is thinking they can go all day without pumping and nurse at night or sleep all night (daddy giving bottles)without emptying and nurse during the day. You must empty all day 24 hours a day to help your body know what is needed.
TIP: Having the baby suckle at the breast for night feedings will help to maintain your supply.

Don't forget to use the right bottles:Thinking that maybe you want to pump only and not put the baby to breast?
