Breastfeeding does not last forever

Nursing with my first child was tough. By the time he was 8 mo. old I was pregnant with my second, but I saw it through and weaned him when he was 12 mo. old - probably to the day. I couldn't wait to be done nursing! However, as time went on, and with subsequent children I grew to love the time I got to spend with my child while I was nursing, not to mention knowing that I always had the perfect meal available for them where ever we were without having to worry about bringing bottles, warming them, and cleaning them later. So, with my fourth child I was ready to continue nursing beyond his first year to an undisclosed time when we would finally part company and no longer be "attached at the nip." With this mindset, we were going along just fine until he was 11 mo. old when he simply decided that he was done with nursing. One day, just like that, not a chance. Of course I had to pump for a while and I tried to give him many chances to reconsider, but he was bound and determined to leave me "high and dry." So, I guess that's how it goes, enjoy it while it lasts, the bond is real and they won't stay little forever.
