breastfeeding for 1st time and son is 7 mos.

I was just wondering if you can breastfeed even though you have never did so or I was thinking maybe if i could pump and then give it to him in a bottle. My milk is completely gone now but is there anyway to start it back up? My son has Hirschsprung disease which makes him have stomach issues and with digestion and with constipation. It was hard in the beginning to try and breastfeed considering he was sick in the hospital and I was sick as well and on a lot of medicines that would not be safe to take and then breast feed. I feel so bad that he isnt being breastfed. When I see others breastfeeding I feel inadequate. Please help me on this? what is your input.

Answer from the lactation consultant
Re-establishing a milk supply is very possible. It is called relactation or induced lactation. There is a protocol you must follow and it is not easy but it will be so worth it for your child and you.
My recommendation is to find a support person in your area that can help you IN PERSON with this, you will need a constant support to make it work. You can find a la leche league leader or a lactation consultant. Call your local hospital, speak with their nursery staff and ask them for a referral. You did not fill out to me where you live or I would help you find someone.
Here is the link on my site that talks more about it: relactation link.
It will be work but I think you will be so much more resolved after doing it.
