Breastfeeding Clothing
Breastfeeding Clothing has sure come a long way since the birth of my first daughter 9 years ago. The only items available were frumpy smocks or ultra feminine gowns. YUCK, neither appealed to me so I wore mostly tank tops with a button down shirt over the top. It was my "look" while breastfeeding. But by the time I had #2, nursing tanks became popular and I wore those like crazy, no nursing bra necessary!
But now the styles are amazing, it is near impossible to tell a nursing top from a non nursing top. Those nursing slits are placed very stragically. The options are limitless.
Although handy, these being special clothes is not mandatory. You can absolutely nurse without them. My suggestion is to pick blouses that are a little loose. It makes for easier access, not to mention you tend to get hot while breastfeeding and the tight ones make it even worse.
You can make anything work, well not a tight leotard
What about a nursing swimsuit? I nursed many times in my two piece swimsuit. NO, it was not a nursing swimsuit but here is if you are looking for a breastfeeding swimsuit. It has the snap closure, just like a nursing tank. What I do like about this is it has fully tummy coverage too.
Want a sexy dress that is nursing friendly? Here’s one that is beautiful and functional.Oh my goodness, I love this dress, wish I was lactating so I could buy it! Lol.It is by Ecoscapes, to access the breasts you simply slide the gathered empire area. Top secret design here! And everyone needs a little black dress, even when you are breastfeeding.
All this being said, I am a lactation consultant and get this: I never owned one “nursing top” . I either wore my nursing tank or nursing bra with my regular clothes and just pulled up or pulled down to access the boobs.
