Breastfeeding Toddler
Breastfeeding Toddler Extended breastfeeding opinions vary from person to person. Here in the US, most consider nursing beyond 12 months extended nursing.
Nursing beyond a year has health benefits, emotional benefits to mom and baby AND economic benefits for the family and culture.
It has, gratefully, started to become a trend over the last decade. Probably in part due to the magnitude of published, scientifically proven benefits. Also, because of the availability of support through lactation consultants online and off, peer support and support from the medical community at large.
What used to be taboo is now becoming normal.
After reading
Dr. Sears extended breastfeeding article.
I now recommend his tactic of rebutting peoples urgings to wean by simply replying "my doctor advises me to continue to breastfeed". Most people will not agrue with a doctor.
So to answer your question, "When should I wean?". The answer is up to you. When you and baby are ready.
