Day 10-14 in breastfeeding
Just when you think you are getting a groove with this baby, they will go through a growth spurt around day 10-14 and change everything.
Literally, your milk will change in response to their changing up the feeding pattern. This change is a baby who suddenly wants
to eat every hour for a 24-36 hour period. Their needs are changing due to the growth spurt and they need to increase your milk
supply, so how do they do this? By increasing demand so the supply will in turn increase. So nursing more frequently will help
you to make more milk.
If this feeding frenzy lasts longer than 48 hours then call your local lactation consultant or your healthcare provider.
They should settle back into a 2-3 hour feeding schedule again. And some babies start sleeping longer at night at this time as
well. I was not this lucky. Both of my daughter fed through the night until they were MUCH older.
The challenge of this growth spurt can be that you are at the time that most hit a wall physically. We have gone almost 2 weeks with little sleep and this we can find ourselves with very little to give. This is where your support system is very important.
Support, Support, Support. And I know it sounds silly but "this too shall pass", it will not last forever and you will survive.
