Thinking about Dieting while breastfeeding?

This article will discuss safe ways to lose the baby weight and NOT interrupt lactation.

Going on a diet while lactating is safe for most women but you must follow some simple guidelines to maintain your health and your milk supply.

1. Continue to take your prenatal vitamins

2. Drink lots of water

3. Eat a minimum of 1800 calories a day, consuming less calories can reduce your milk supply and make mommy feel poorly.

4. Avoid ALL diet supplements containing appetite suppressants and or energy components. These additives often contain massive amounts of caffeine which are not safe for baby. Also, there are many herbs that are not safe for baby to ingest as well. "all natural or herbal" does NOT mean safe for baby. If in doubt, ask your lactation consultant or primary care doctor before consuming.

5. Add moderate exercise: 30 minutes to one hour of light cardio is a good starting point. (like walking, pilates or pregnancy aerobics)
