I ate spicy foods

Hi, I had some spicy foods yesterday and every since then my 5 week old baby has been crying in pain. He gets stiff as a board, sweats, claws at me, etc. I've given him formula and he seems to be his normal happy self only then. It's now been 24 hrs since so I tried nursing him again only to have him wail at the top of his lungs again. I hate to see him in pain like this and would like to supplement him with formula until the spicy food gets flushed out if my system. I guess my question is how long I should wait before nursing him again? Having to hear him in pain for as long as up to an hour is just about enough to make me quit breastfeeding. I really don't want that. Meanwhile, I've been drinking lots of water to speed the process along, and also been pumping to keep up my milk production.
I really appreciate your help.

Note from the lactation consultant:
It only takes 4-6 hours for foods to clear out of your breastmilk but if it irritated babies tummy, it could take 24 hours for their tummy to settle down.
