Low Milk Supply

I am suffering from low milk supply. I started back to work last week and since then I have seen a drastic drop. I have restrictions getting to pump at work. My schedule is packed with patients. So I nurse before work (5am or so), then I pump at 12pm (lunch) and then in the evenings I try to keep baby to breast. I know I need to pump more and I am trying to remedy that. I am considering hands free pumping on the way to work? and home?
I have domperidone and reglan but I am afraid to take them due to potential side effects (I am aware that everything has a potential to cause a side effect).
I already take More Milk Plus SB, and drink MM Tea AND I eat oats every morning. I am going to the vitamin store to get some Fenugreek, Blessed Thistle and Alfalfa. How would you suggest taking these and how long should it take before I see an increase?
Answer from Liz the lactation consultantYou already know what the problem is:
Your issue is not hormonal, All the herbs in the world will not help if you are not emptying your breasts. They only work in combination of emptying. If you only empty once in a 10 hour window then your body thinks you want to wean.
If you want to increase your supply then you simply need to empty more. Go to your boss, explain your situation and make time to pump every 3-4 hours while at work. Remind them that legally, you should be getting a 15 minute break every 4 hours. Choosing to pump on your break will solve the problem. So with 2, 15 minute breaks and your lunch break, your supply will do much better.
I am a nurse so I understand full well how busy a day can be. But I always made time to go pump. The smokers find time to go smoke so surely you can make 10-15 minutes to go pump.:)
I do not suggest adding any herbs to your regimen until you can pump more. It will be a waste of money. BTW, I never recommend reglan, due to the potential of depression.
I believe you will find the pages to the left on Working Moms to be helpful.
Once you start pumping more, if you still have supply issues, let me know then we will talk herbs/meds.
You can do it!
