Peytons Story

I grew very large with Peyton. He is not my first baby, he is my 3rd little boy but I was so excited to see him. I had a really hard pregnancy with him and I was also in a mild car wreck when I was 5 months pregnant. I was so protective of him and I kept telling the doctor I felt like something was wrong. He kept reassuring me that it was just pregnancy jitters. When I was on the operating table having a c-section to have him and the doctor reached to get him, he had a surprised look on his face. I asked my husband if he could see his head and he said "No but I see a foot." Peyton was a double footling breech. He came out a healthy 9 pounds 13oz. The first time they brought him in to nurse however, as he started to suckle, my legs were still numb but I felt something hot and wet on them. I handed Peyton to my husband Greg and lifted the sheet to find I was bleeding bad, really bad and not in a normal way. We called in a nurse who after seeing what was happening, panicked and ran for help. 4 shots 6 hours and a blood transfusion later I am recovering but they told me that Peyton could not nurse because of the shots they had to give me to stop the bleeding. I pumped breast milk for the time period the nurses said and he has been on formula but I am afraid the damage is done and my milk supply had dwindled to almost nothing. I am still trying and I don't want to give up. I feel so bad because breastfeeding is really special to me and I don't want Peyton to be denied that. Keep us in your prayers.
note from Liz:
Please consult a lactation consultant, your low supply is a direct result of your blood loss but can easily be recovered with the assistance of a LC. If you do not have one locally, I would be glad to do a private email/chat/phone consult with you. It can be arranged through the website.
