Pumping FAQ #5 Can I pump and give expressed breastmilk in a bottle?

Absolutely. Breastmilk is always the best thing for baby. So if you are separated from your newborn, expressed breastmilk is superb.

But if you are able to latch your baby to your breast, that is better than pumping and bottle feeding the expressed milk. If your plan was providing breastmilk for longer than a few weeks, breast pumping is not ideal. It does not empty or stimulate the way a baby does at the breast. So fighting low milk supply is frequently an issue. Also, you are not breastfeeding your baby, you are bottle feeding your baby breastmilk. So it will be easier for you to quit altogether because you do not have the physical cues/bond that you would with the baby suckling. So my answer is circular: I would prefer the baby to be nursing at the breast, but if that is NOT an option, expressing milk is better choice than formula, in my opinion.
