Why dose my milk sometimes looks watered down and other times thick?

Answer from Liz, RN, IBCLC

The milk in your breasts varies in the amount of fat it contains depending on when it was made and how long it has been stored. This is called foremilk and hindmilk. The foremilk is the newest made milk and it is what the baby recieves in the first few minutes of a feeding. But toward the end of the feeding the baby is able to access the hind milk and it is much higher in fat and will look thicker.
